Three cheers for April 6!

In case you didn’t know, that is the United Nation’s official date for the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. I think many people would be shocked to hear how much I love sports. Of course, to be honest, I don’t care about scores, trophies, or championships. And don’t ask me who’s in first or last place. I wouldn’t have a clue.

That being said, I love to watch the pure poetry and grace that happens when athletes (of all sports and all ages) execute at such a high level that their performance transforms into a moment where skill gives way to effortless ease, which many athletes describe as being “in the zone.”

In fact, I have devoted my life to this “effortless ease.” I called it The Easiest Way!

In the Zero Frequency workshops I give around the world, I teach how to access this zone state (Zero) for ourselves — with our careers, our families and friends, and in our communities. I do it with young and old alike. You see, here’s the truth nobody tells you: You don’t have to be a world-class athlete to experience that state of being, just a world-class human — open-hearted, conscious, and responsible.

Simply put, we access Zero through our state of awareness — a place where confusion and limiting beliefs are not present. Of course, before we can begin this journey to awareness, we must realize that this is our natural state. Being at Zero is who we are; it’s also the state we lived in as young children before we accepted the “knowledge” and “programs” that tell us what we can and cannot do.

When we re-learn how to live at Zero, we become our authentic selves, where we can access our true talents and natural gifts (like any great athlete). At this moment, whatever is right and perfect for us begins to come effortlessly toward us, including love, happiness, and peace. Peace not only for ourselves but for the world.

I believe sports are an important doorway to this new awareness and the Zero state we seek. It is not unlike painting, music, poetry, or raising children, or anything that requires we stay creative, live in the moment, and become responsible for all that enters our world. Put another way, sports teach us to seek flow and allow our greatness to reveal itself with no resistance or fear on our part. Sports (at its best) will enable us to experience effortlessness in our actions, which should ideally translate into our everyday world.

In this Divine state, all things are possible.

Of course, along the way, sports also teach us (and our children) fairness, team building, equality, inclusion, perseverance, and how to come together to share creative ways to improve our health and well-being through physical activity. Sports will help us stretch our bodies and minds so that we can be more flexible and resilient. More than that, sports show us what happens when people come together from different walks of life and experiences to work toward a common goal.

And, of course, above it all (and closest to my heart), sports teach us what all children know — how to play and express ourselves through joyful activity. Regardless of our age, play improves our relationships and connection with others, relieves stress, enhances creativity, and stimulates the mind. In short, play is pure Vitamin C gold for the heart!

And, make no mistake, play is impossible unless we learn how to live in the moment and find our own place in the world — where we can shine and experience flow.

Yes, my friends, we don’t need to sit back on our recliners and stare with awe at the superhuman power of athletes. We can be superhuman ourselves. We don’t have to be the greatest, or world champions, or rich, or famous. We need to be the best we can be in our own world, or at least better versions of who we were the day before.

And we can begin by training ourselves to access this state of Zero, not for a few moments of the day, but all day and every day. Like all the athletes and artists we admire, we can become more aware and conscious in our own arena of play.

At this point, we will become in tune with the limitless possibilities that come from the power of Zero, where life is truly easier!
